Per comment #36, this looks to be a kernel bug instead. Kernel team, can we please get the patch from https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1455231/ pulled into the Ubuntu kernel? If we can't (or if it's already there but this is still broken), please kick this back to plymouth.
