Right, for Edubuntu specifically we have indeed two main issues: - We like the UI to fit on a netbook. - Having those launchers on a student's default desktop doesn't seem appropriate to me.
We'll be happy to have those available in the Dash and/or as bookmarks in firefox (I personally prefer the bookmarks...), but we'll do what's needed to remove them from the default Unity launchers. Sadly as that's really last minute, it means we may need to start shipping extra gsettings overrides and maybe even a separate edubuntu- settings package overriding ubuntu's...
