I had a similar problem . After searching in the web i found this

In my case , i do this :
identify the process modem-manager 
with the pid , i type the following cmd
kill <pid> ;  modem-manager --debug > /tmp/modem-manager-debug.txt 2>&1

I see the famous string "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" that causes crash .
