** Description changed:

  On my HP 8560w laptop, I have been using suspend/resume daily for about
- two weeks without issue.  On 2012-09-15 I docked the laptop and pressed the
- power button.  Normally the session resumes with the screensaver appearing
- on the LCD.  This time, the LCD was on what appeared to be a VT and was
- showing syslog messages.  The external monitors showed the screensaver.
- I was able to type in my password from the laptop keyboard, and the
- desktop session appeared as it was when I had suspended it the day before.
- However, I could not move the mouse nor enter any keystrokes using the
- external or built-in keyboard/pointer.  I did not attempt remote login
- over the network.

  /var/log/*
  
  In looking through the logs, there were six "general protection faults"

  The attached kern.log snippet has more details.  The log begins at the
  first timestamp for Sep 15 and ends shortly after the power cycle.
