I found a solution: 1) I installed gnome-alsamixer
2) Under the 2 Capture options, I turned "rec." on. I have no idea what this means (record?), but it solved the problem. Alsamixer (commandline ) DOES NOT HAVE such an option. Alsamixer needs to be fixed. This should be considered a major problem, microphones nowadays are essential and many people will dump Ubuntu if it cannot work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991155 Title: [G31M-ES2C, Realtek ALC883, Pink Mic, Front] No sound at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/991155/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
