Public bug reported:

I receive this error after running 'update-grub' from a terminal and after a
new kernel is installed from synaptic.
when I go to the advanced options for this particular install, the computer
immediately reboots.
Also when viewing additional options from the grub menu of other installs there
is an incredibly long list of lines for possible boot options.
This machine has 4 HDD with 7 different installations of Ubuntu & 1 Win XP,
1 Lucid
1 Natty
2 Precise
3 Quantal
The grub menus of the older installs have the spamed effect showing too.
will attach example.
