Public bug reported: Right after opening the hotkey settings of vlc, Xorg started to assign memory as crazy. I killed X and tried it again. And Xorg leaked memory again as mad.
ubuntu-bug was launched via ssh while Xorg drove crazy. # ps -e -orss=,args= | sort -b -k1,1n | pr -TW$COLUMNS | grep X 1486156 /usr/bin/X :0 -core -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch -background none # free -m total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2007 1869 138 0 1 145 -/+ buffers/cache: 1722 285 Swap: 1999 1529 470 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-13.14-generic 3.5.3 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-13-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.5.1-0ubuntu4 Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Sep 8 00:14:13 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: quantal DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.1.18, 3.5.0-13-generic, i686: installed GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) [8086:2a02] (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: QUANTA Computer Inc Device [152d:0763] Subsystem: QUANTA Computer Inc Device [152d:0763] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Alpha i386 (20120724.2) MachineType: Intel Corporation Crestline+ICH8M PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-13-generic root=UUID=3762be01-51dd-41e0-89fe-497173b4e1a9 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 09/23/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD dmi.bios.version: Q3D18 dmi.board.name: Crestline+ICH8M dmi.board.vendor: Intel Corporation dmi.board.version: Not Applicable dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 1 dmi.chassis.vendor: Intel Corporation dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLTD:bvrQ3D18:bd09/23/2008:svnIntelCorporation:pnCrestline+ICH8M:pvrlicable:rvnIntelCorporation:rnCrestline+ICH8M:rvrNotApplicable:cvnIntelCorporation:ct1:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: Crestline+ICH8M dmi.product.version: licable dmi.sys.vendor: Intel Corporation version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.8.0-0ubuntu1 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.38-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.0~git20120821.c1114c61-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.0~git20120821.c1114c61-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.12.99.905-0ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.99.99~git20120713.6ef1ad6a-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.3-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.1-4~ubuntu1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 quantal ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047664 Title: xorg swaps some gigabytes and so system is not very responsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1047664/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
