i have the same error messages on my hpz600 which has a Nvidia geforce gt 220 running pangolin using noveau
it has dual screens , 1 vga and 1 hdmi and i haven't unplugged them for ages.. after a random amount of time i'm suddenly trapped in one window , no attempts to change screen settings required. i can Ctrl+Alt+F1 , i haven't tried ssh'ing in.
