Public bug reported:

Hello,

when using empathy-chat on the latest quantal builds, I see relatively
high CPU usage of empathy-chat when it is idle in the background
connected to an irc chat session.

Even with no activity on irc and the empathy windows in the background,
the empathy-chat process constantly uses 9-10% of a CPU(i7 Ivy Bridge).
I would expect to see hardly any CPU usage for an idle background
process.

This results in my laptop significantly increasing the power usage under
light load usage conditions and thus shortens its battery life.

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
