Hello! I can confirm that some domains coming from whois.ua are shown improperly when one's LANG is set to UTF-8.
Unfortunately, the whois protocol is a bit simplistic and does not support any encoding specification. So one has to guess. It would appear that the authors of whois have guessed that whois.ua will return koi8-u encoded text. But the two domains I checked had UTF-8 encoded entries. It would help if a native speaker would reach out to the administrators of whois.ua and ask them if they are enforcing any one encoding on their entries. If that turns out to be utf-8 instead of koi8-u, then we can just change the entry in 'servers_charset_list' ** Changed in: whois (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: whois (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1040586 Title: Cyrillic characters shown with wrong encoding To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whois/+bug/1040586/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
