Well, this bug (or whatever you call this) is out for so long and the
held back packages started to effect other ones. So, I decided to change
my authentication method from "auxprop" to "rimap". I did this because,
I couldn't risk changing from courier to devocot like mentioned in other
posts. And since I got a working imap authentication, I asked, why not?

So, basically, what i did is,
1- I stopped holding sasl2 packages which are at version 2.1.23,
2- Upgraded to latest packages for sasl2 in Ubuntu 12.04 (This OS has been 
upgraded from 9.04->9.10->10.04->12.04),
3- Configured new sasl2 to work with "rimap" (search for "rimap configuration" 
in google to tune configuration for your own machine)
4- Restarded saslauthd daemon and postfix service.
5- Enjoyed sending e-mail with the latest packages installed...
