I'm unable to reproduce this using the standard Ubuntu checkgmail. I
looked at the automatix source and they do some thing slightly
differently than if you install through the supported Kubuntu
installation methods. Since you installed a modified package and are
reporting an error that can't be reproduced with the standard package,
the bug is invalid.

What I would suggest doing is:

Remove checkgmail (sudo apt-get remove checkgmail)
Remove the non-standard files that automatix installs:
sudo rm /usr/share/icons/checkgmail.png
sudo rm /usr/share/applications/checkgmail.desktop

Then reinstall from the standard Ubuntu repositories:
Comment out all of the automatix repositories in your sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install checkgmail

If you can reproduce the problem after doing that, then reopen the bug
(set status back to NEW).
