I supplied not only the bug report but a patch and a confirmation that
the patch actually fixes the problem.  If you want to go ahead and
supply other people with a fixed version, that would be marvellous of
you.  I am sure others would appreciate it very much.

But I am not going to spend yet more time on this issue writing up a
justification, complete with test cases and whatever else you want, why
this should be fixed in the currently released version -- the version
that everyone is using.  It's quite clear why it should be fixed.

Just skip all of the red-tape and do the right thing and provide
everyone else with the fixed package.
