Returned with updates. I am now convinced that the mic is not working with alsa-driver1.0.24 and above. I tried with ubuntu 9.10 10.4 10.10 11.04 and it works fine. With 11.10 and above releases of ubuntu that have pre-installed alsa-driver-1.0.24 microphone is not working.
What should i do now so that in some way this can be fixed?
