Public bug reported:

XSane now crashes every time I use it, giving a segfault. The crash
happens at different times. Sometimes it crashes while displaying the
'Searching for devices' window, which just disappears. Sometimes it
crashes with an error dialog reading:

Failed to open device
'hpaio:/usb/HP_Color_LasterJet_CM1312_MFP?serial=xxx': Error during
device I/O.

Sometimes XSane starts but segfaults during the scan: the scanner
hardware operates correctly, but XSane crashes before it can accept any
data returned from the scanner.

The scanner is an HP 1312 MFP directly connected via a USB cable.

The problem persists even if I remove ~/.sane/xsane

XSane was working perfectly in Oneiric, with this scanner.

The printer side of the CM1312 still works fine.

GDB output gives
(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/bin/xsane
