Public bug reported:

I have encountered an issue after installing Ubuntu Server 12.04 i386 on
an older computer with Biostar mainboard. I believe the problem is
realated to the on board graphics which is the S3 Inc. VT8375
[ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]. After successfuly installing the operating
system and rebooting the computer, the computer freezes with a blank
screen right after displaying the grub boot menu. Rebooting the computer
and pressing the 'e' key allows me to remove the gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode
entry form the options list, this allows the comouter to boot with the
640x480 resolution. There is no dmesg or syslog entries that record the
first attempted booting at all.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS version 12.04

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
