Dave I tried the following to test out some things and the installation was perfectly smooth without any issues. So I think the problem is that the removal step #2 needs to be automated in the Xorg-edgers packaging scripts because of the above issue you mentioned with 3.5 Kernel.
1. Dropped into TTY-1 and stopped lightdm. 2. Removed Nvidia-Current 'apt-get remove --purge nvidia-current'. 3. Ran the official installer 'NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-304.30.run'. 4. Restarted lightdm and did a graphical reboot. Previously I omitted the removal step in #2 and I had significant problems installing 304.30 this way as it would not even write the new driver as I could not find it in /proc/driver/nvidia and was still at the old version while nvidia-xsettings were at 304.30 and the DKMS scripts thought that I was running 304.30. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1032901 Title: [Xorg-edgers] DKMS make for Nvidia 304.30 and Linux Kernel 3.5.0-7-generic hard fail...
