I'm afraid that Herd 4 has long since departed my machine to join that cloud of unwanted electrons in the sky. It would have been interesting to have looked at the two outputs you suggest. I'm sorry I didn't think of that then because I can see that the problem probably didn't lie with e2label itself.
Anyway, e2label works fine in the final release of Feisty so whatever the problem was has obviously been fixed.
