I just tried the latest quantal kernel, 3.5.0-7, and it continues to suffer from the issue, while the 3.5.0-030500rc7 kernel continues to work perfectly. What happens when I try and boot without nomodeset is after grub, the monitor goes into sleep mode and never wakes up.
