As mentioned before the hang does not cause an oops, and I can still reboot using ctrl-alt-del. I did get a stack trace with alt-sysrq-t. Blurry and incomplete cellphone pic attached.
I also tried 2.6.22-rc5 and 2.6.21.5 from kernel.org.
