As I understand it nspluginwrapper can't run the java plugin at the moment; but I can see that would be nice; I think it would also be nice for it to be used on 32bit systems as the way to run Java - I just think keeping it out of firefox's way is a good thing. I think the thing that is different about java is that it can be run as a separate command/process already (as KDE does) and that lets you mix and match a much wider range of JVMs. Perhaps that could be implemented as a generic java plugin that was independent of the JVM that actually got run? (Incidentally I find nspluginwrapper useful but far from 100% reliable; I find after a while it just stops running flash and I have problems with it losing clicks (#108733 that originally thought might be a compiz issue); but nspluginwrapper not being packaged doesn't really have a place to keep it's bugs on here).
