I appreciate your response, but I'm afraid Kevin has already narrowed out that avenue. Again, I point out that I and others can reproduce this problem with a Live CD. This means that if there are any environment differences, they would have had to been committed by Canonical. All of the things I installed in the Live CD do not change the environment. I realize you have a lot of bugs to filter through, but we've narrowed this down as far as it can go, to my knowledge. It's not a Gnome issue as the problem occurs in xfce (Xubuntu) as well. Sorry, I really think this deserves a closer look.
