Those who have this same symptom please refer to bug #717970. We suspect this being an incorrect resuming sequence of the synaptics drivers, but the correct theory hasn't yet been formalized. Before a fix lands in upstream kernel, one can work around this by putting psmouse in the SUSPEND_MODULES variable of pm-utils, as stated in bug #717970.
@TheGhost and others, please confirm if this issue happens after suspend/resume, or it just happens randomly after system startup. Need to make sure if it's a duplicate issue.
