I'm glad my solution helped you, Hessian.  Basically, if you have to
access GRUB to get the older kernel, then the only step you missed was
removing the 3.2.0-25 kernel, as well as the 3.2.0-23-generic.  No
biggie.

You're absolutely right, though; a few extra keystrokes is a small
sacrifice to have a fully-working computer.
