The dmesg.log that you provided is for the working kernel. Could you try to send the dmesg.log for the Gutsy kernel. Please remove "splash" and "quiet" from Grub options to see the details. You can do that either while booting your system and hitting Escape and 'e' or by editing the file /boot/grub/menu.lst
You mentioned that 2.6.22 kernels don't boot.
