In any case, let's deal with the (main) problem.  When eth0 is not
mentioned in /e/n/i, NM should configure it regardless of the "managed"
setting.  But in Frank's case that doesn't happen.  In Frank's log (NM
0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1) we see:
