Gary, so it seems that I have finally reached the state of having all info to fix the problem for your printer model. I will change the exception (quirk) rule for your printer in the USB CUPS backend so that the usblp kernel module does not get re-attached after a print job has finished. After that the HL-1440 will just work with the new USB backend. Thank you very much for all the testing.
