Public bug reported: lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release: 12.04
apt-cache policy thunar thunar: Installed: 1.2.3-3ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.2.3-3ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.2.3-3ubuntu2 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Expected: Moving files / directories within one filesystem should always be fast. What happened: Moving files / directories within one filesystem is sometimes slow. In some cases, Thunar seems to perform a copy and then a remove of the original files instead of moving them. I think it occurs when moving whole directories and one of the sub-directories already exists at the target location. Example: I have a structure like Source Dir1 some files Dir2 some files Dir3 some files Dir4 some files Target Dir3 some files (not the same as in Source/Dir3) Dir5 some files Dir6 some files Dir7 some files And then I mark everything in Source and drag it to Target. Everything except Dir3 works as fast as expected. But the files in Dir3 are listed in a progress dialog and take so long that the only explanation is there must be a cp and rm instead a mv. The files are videos recorded from TV, so they are big :-) and everyhing happens within one filesystem. I think in cases like this, Thunar should still do a mv of the single files to the existing target dir. ** Affects: thunar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1014262 Title: When moving files, thunar sometimesperforms a cp and rm instead of a mv To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunar/+bug/1014262/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
