Hi, I am one of the upstream Gnumeric developers. We cannot replicate your problem (but none of us is running Ubuntu 12.04). So perhaps you would answer a few questions. Note that we are only asking about the very first click on the save button.
First you open the file file.xls. Does the window title now show "file-xls - Gnumeric" and nothing else? Then you edit some cell in the file. Does the window title now show "*file-xls - Gnumeric" and nothing else? Then you click on the save button once. Does the window title now show "file-xls - Gnumeric" and nothing else?
