apport-collect is from a Kubuntu 12.04 machine, which besides trying to use the KVM as cd-rom also effectively freezes after login until the KVM USB is pulled out (it can be plugged back in after KDE initializes). The dmesg sample above is from a 10.04 server (without X installed).
