I use NVIDIA 295.49, Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on an Acer Aspire 5738ZG. I'm suddenly unable to reproduce to problem entirely. Maybe because I'm on battery power. (That's the only thing I changed).
In the current situation it increases Xorg CPU usage only to about 8-9%, but compiz usage still goes up to 20-24%. The CPU usage increases for both processes when I only drag the window, but don't move it.
