True, bash is not saving the history. Ubutu 12.04 LTS i386, up to date. .bashrc is correct and checking HIST... variables within the terminal trough echo $HIST... gives correct results.
Workaround that worked for me: delete .bash_history. File will be re-created on next terminal closing.
