Have tried this and get the following error from GDebi:

"Error: Failed to satisfy broken dependencies (broken cache)"

When installing "vim-common_7.0-035+1ubuntu2~dapper0.1_i386". This
happened after I attempted to install the package.

Just found the fix: had to go into Synaptic and select "Fix Broken
Packages" from the "Edit" menu. I didn't realise you had to remove the
existing Vim packages before installing the new ones. Hope this helps
anyone who has the same problems. Would also like to know how I would
have done that through the command line, that was the first thing I
tried, but couldn't find anything that would fix the problems.

Once up and running, all seems fine (have installed vim-common, vim-
runtime, vim-gui and vim-full all i386 versions).
