I have done a temporary fix for the problem by reverting r650963 (hint from upstreams bug reports..)
Attached is the patch I used. I also made a .deb of it, that can be found at: http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/kmail_3.5.7-0ubuntu1~feisty1.2_i386.deb (It also includes a system tray behavior fix for KMail to follow the system tray "standard" behavior.)
