Hi, after reading comment #27, I upgraded again from 11.10 to 12.04 and the problem has disappeared almost completely. Now there is no flickering during regular use of the laptop.
There is a small nuisance left though, don't know if it is worth fixing. Short flickering appears during logging in: 1. Boot laptop 2. Enter the password and press enter 3. Wait for log in <- flickering occurs here 4.
