I was having this issue too. After some searching I found this post http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1805615.
The fix was to browse to your profile folder and remove the file global- messages-db.sqlite. In XP profiles are usually C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<8alphanumeric>.default Sorry if this doesn't help the ubuntu people. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998075 Title: 12.0.1 Thunderbird upgrade broke Search To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/998075/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
