As far as I can tell Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS is still not able to send this kind of queries. There isn't any mention of information request in the ping man page, and -w is used for a different purpose. So I don't think the ping command can do what is requested, and I haven't been to identify another Ubuntu utility with this feature.
