Also an issue for me as I recently did a clean install of 12.04. I have
several OpenVPN servers, and they worked perfectly fine under 11.04 and
11.10 but as soon I installed 12.04, I could no longer access the
internet through them....I could connect fine, and ping individual IPs,
which made me narrow it down to a DNS issue. Appearently, there were
major changes to DNS stuff in 12.04 so I am not surprised it is
currently broken....

More information about the changes can be found linked below, but
basically, my temporary fix is to disable a new addon in 12.04 called
"dnsmasq":
