** Description changed: About a week ago, my home server (running 12.04 Ubuntu Server Edition) started freezing randomly. Until today, there was no video output because the monitor was asleep, and all I could do was a hard reset. Luckily I was finally able to capture some output today, which I photographed because there was no other way for me to transcribe it. The photo is attached. There was one other time where it froze while the monitor was on, but it only gave me two lines of information, which said something about attempting to write to kernel memory. I did not photograph them. I have already tried regressing to the 3.0.0-17 kernel to no avail, as you can see (the freezes began while I was running the most recent kernel). This is a total showstopper bug, and I am totally out of my depth here. I am just going to switch to debian unless you folks want me to keep trying to troubleshoot it.
