Yes, this issue still persists in 12.04.$ unity --version says "unity 5.12.0." I get the same output as above including nothing in /var/crash/ . Only thing different is the title when I hover over said applications icon in the launcher it now will say "Hud," "panel," "DNDCollectionWindow," or "launcher".
