Public bug reported: When I run emacs in an X window the display rapidly becomes corrupted, making emacs completely unusable in X windows. It appears sort of like characters that are written to the display are never erased so all the characters overlay each other rather than replacing each other. (Note that emacs works OK in an xterm.)
I saw that a bug sounding similar was reported for some other distributions having to do with Intel graphics hardware (and I am presently running Intel Sandy Bridge video). This bug appears to be different because the corruption does not change if I mouse away and then back. If I iconify the window and then raise it again or if I cover it and raise it then the display is re-displayed correctly. ii emacs23 23.3+1-1ubuntu The GNU Emacs editor (with GTK+ user interfa ii emacs23-bin-co 23.3+1-1ubuntu The GNU Emacs editor's shared, architecture ii emacs23-common 23.3+1-1ubuntu The GNU Emacs editor's shared, architecture ii emacsen-common 1.4.22ubuntu1 Common facilities for all emacsen Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release: 12.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic-pae 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic-pae i686 ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: i386 Date: Mon May 7 22:19:30 2012 InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release i386 (20111012) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/usr/bin/tcsh SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-05-05 (2 days ago) ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug corruption i386 precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/996291 Title: emacs window display becomes corrupted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/996291/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
