Public bug reported:

When I run emacs in an X window the display rapidly becomes corrupted,
making emacs completely unusable in X windows. It appears sort of like
characters that are written to the display are never erased so all the
characters overlay each other rather than replacing each other. (Note
that emacs works OK in an xterm.)

I saw that a bug sounding similar was reported for some other
distributions having to do with Intel graphics hardware (and I am
presently running Intel Sandy Bridge video). This bug appears to be
different because the corruption does not change if I mouse away and
then back. If I iconify the window and then raise it again or if I
cover it and raise it then the display is re-displayed correctly.
