The problem is very simple with simple solution:

there is a bad icon - empty image - called nm-wwan-tower.svg, probably
in all icon themes.  Many other icons reference to it (including icons
for mobile broadband technology). All you need to do is to replace this
icon by something else (/usr/share/icons/<icon theme>/...)

BTW: there is another similar "bug":  icon for wired connection is
referenced to icon for no connection. I do not why, so I switched the
link to something meaningful
