The problem is very simple with simple solution: there is a bad icon - empty image - called nm-wwan-tower.svg, probably in all icon themes. Many other icons reference to it (including icons for mobile broadband technology). All you need to do is to replace this icon by something else (/usr/share/icons/<icon theme>/...)
BTW: there is another similar "bug": icon for wired connection is referenced to icon for no connection. I do not why, so I switched the link to something meaningful -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/936421 Title: [11.10 - 12.04] nm-applet on lubuntu does not show an icon when using UMTS/mobile broadband To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/936421/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
