Public bug reported:

I have noticed something very odd the last few days with Unity in Ubuntu
12.04. I am very pleased with this release of Ubuntu, but this bug is
kind of annoying.

Basically, lets say I am in an application and accidentally hold down
the ALT key long enough to launch the HUD (launching the HUD in error).
If I close the HUD without actually launching any commands (I think I
hit ESC or generally exit the HUD by clicking), most of the global menus
will no longer work correctly.

The exact symptom is that when you hover over the top bar, you will see
the menus appear only if you hover over your maximize, minimize, close
buttons, but if you don't move quickly enough over to the global menu,
it will disappear before you have a chance to select anything. The
normal/expected behavior is that the global menu would stay visible as
long as you hover over that bar.

Once this starts happening, it affects a number of applications, but
oddly, not all of them. The only way to stop this from happening is to
log out of the session and log back in.

The strange thing is that this doesn't seem to happen all the time, so
it has been hard to pinpoint the exact cause.

I have a fairly standard install, the only customization I have done
around the HUD is to use a hack to enable the Global menu to work with
Eclipse and I also installed a package to enable global menus for
LibreOffice.

This has happened a few times, but I cannot say exactly when it starts
(because I don't use global menus a lot). I will try to monitor, but I
was advised in the "Answers" section to report this as a bug.

Thanks.
