Actually, I *do* know what ITT is, I just didn't catch on to it since it doesn't have anything to do with emacs. ITT is the company that makes IDL, a data processing package I installed some time ago. And it seems this left a script called "install" in /usr/local/bin/, which was then called instead of /usr/bin/install during the emacs configuration phase. Or something of that sort, I found the explanation by googling on part of the error message. Someone had had the same problem under Mac OS X and fink.
Anyway, I removed the IDL install script, uninstalled the emacs23 etc packages with apt-get and then installed them fresh again. Worked fine! Sorry about the noise and thanks for running this service. /Mats -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991526 Title: package emacs23-nox 23.3+1-1ubuntu9 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs23/+bug/991526/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
