This is disastrous for Canonical/Ubuntu's reputation.... I am aware
that it is Nvidia at fault and that is the joys of waiting for a
proprietary company to update closed source drivers and adapt them for
an opensource project.... but the LEAST Canonical could do if they care
about their reputation... is ensure the release is well tested before
releasing... ESPECIALLY being an LTS...

The problem though, is that Canonical release to a schedule no matter if
the release is ready or not... and that needs to change... Something as
important as this Needs to be addressed BEFORE releasing... The Majority
of Nvidia users will install the proprietary driver not knowing of the
horrors to come.... Release it when MAJOR issues are fixed! Not release
Half assed... it's Unprofessional... and not fair that users of an LTS
will end up with a broken system even if it isn't Canonical's fault
directly... It is simply not acceptable for users to have to wait for
updates to fix their broken system "whenever that will happen"
