Philip, I can't give you neither the exact error message, nor to tell exactly when it came up during the boot stage. To the best of my knowledge, the last boot lines displayed were md related, after which the system was dropping to a busybox shell. I can only *assume* it was failing when trying to mount the root filesystem. And, as I said, after rebuilding initrd image with kpartx-boot support the problem disappeared.
