Steve,

Adding break=top did prevent the graphics glitch, but I didn't get much
further. The system hung after probing the SCSI controller.

I should note that my coworker also has a MacBookPro 6,2, and his
machine booted and installed 12.04 without issue. So we might be looking
at a firmware or minor hardware difference that is causing trouble.
