@Paul comment 40 How would I check if my guest account got corrupted? As a matter of fact I don't even think the guest account was enabled on my prior Ubuntu 11.10 installation. Perhaps there is a way to see what is different about the login settings between the two accounts? Give me suggestions and I will try it.
Just for chuckles I also installed the cuda version of this driver 295-41 from Nvidia. Unfortunately I'm seeing the same problem on my main account. compiz crashes and thus no unity-3D.
