However, when I changed /ftp to point to an ext3 filesystem, the tar.gz file downloaded properly. When I created /ftp as a directory (rather than as a symlink), it also downloaded correctly -- obviously in this case /ftp was on an ext3 filesystem rather than on a vfat filesystem. The same thing happened when I set the download directory in Preferences to be on a vfat filesystem (without a symlink). Also, I noticed when downloading an attachment from my yahoo mail account a strange anomaly when the file was a text file named "hah" (no extension) -- yahoo said it was of type "BIN". The file downloaded correctly but when the file system was vfat, the file was named "hah.bin". When the download directory was on an ext3 filesystem, the file was downloaded properly as "hah". I don't know if it's related (probably not), but it's annoying. Please let me know how I can help you debug this.
