I opened sound (settings) and I don't have a microphone listed under the input tab either. However a microphone does appear when I plug in an external mic. For some reason it doesn't switch to the built in mic (as happens in the output tab when you plug-in / unplug your headphone).
Is this the same problem you are reporting iniquiTrance?
